About the Stanley FBB173 4-1/2" half surface hinge
The Stanley FBB173 is a 5-knuckle, ball bearing, half surface hinge, standard weight, 4-1/2" x 4-1/2", with square corners in satin chrome (26D) on steel. It is certified to ANSI A156.1 and A156.7 and UL listed.
On a half surface hinge, the door leaf mounts on the face of the door while the frame leaf is mortised into the frame. It is used where the door can't be mortised for a hinge, for example some metal-clad or retrofit doors, while the frame still has a standard hinge prep.
Ball bearings carry the door's weight for a smooth swing. Standard weight suits typical commercial doors; heavy or high-traffic doors usually call for heavy weight hinges.
